Imagine waking up surrounded by the greenery of the Apulian countryside, spending the day by the sea, wandering through the narrow streets of a whitewashed village at sunset, and ending the evening beneath a star-filled sky, far from the noise and crowds. This is Trulli Macco Macco, our B&B and holiday home featuring trulli and cummerse, near Locorotondo, in the heart of the Itria Valley.
Just 2 km or so from Locorotondo, our property offers the opportunity to experience the most authentic side of Puglia: trulli, dry-stone walls, olive groves and charming small villages, without giving up the convenience of being close to the sea and the area's main attractions.
August is one of the best months to discover this corner of Puglia.
The Itria Valley comes alive: historic town centres fill with concerts, patron-saint festivals, food festivals, shows and events, while the long summer days invite you to set off and explore the area.
Just a few minutes from our property, you can visit Locorotondo, one of the most picturesque villages in Puglia, strolling through its characteristic white streets and enjoying its flower-filled balconies and the atmosphere of summer evenings.
In August, there is no shortage of events: music, culture and tradition accompany the town's days and evenings, with events such as the Locus Festival and the celebrations dedicated to Saint Roch.
And when the evening comes to an end, you can leave the bustle of the historic centre behind and return to the tranquillity of the countryside.
One of the great advantages of staying inland in the Itria Valley is being able to reach the sea easily.
In around 15 minutes by car, you can reach the coast and choose a different beach every day.
Torre Canne, Savelletri, Capitolo and Monopoli are just some of the destinations to discover for a day of sunshine, sea and relaxation.
You can start the day with a swim in the Adriatic, enjoy a seafood lunch, and return to the peaceful countryside in the afternoon.
And at sunset? You can choose to stay on the coast or head back towards the villages of the Itria Valley for an evening stroll and a traditional Apulian dinner.
The location of our property makes it easy to reach some of Puglia's best-known destinations.
Alberobello, the capital of the trulli, is practically a must for anyone visiting the Itria Valley.
Just a few kilometres away, you will also find Martina Franca, elegant and rich in Baroque architecture; Cisternino, with its charming alleyways and traditional butcher shops; and Ostuni, the stunning White City overlooking the surrounding countryside.
And there is more: Monopoli, with its fascinating seaside historic centre; Fasano and Savelletri; the Castellana Caves; and the archaeological site of Egnazia.
For those who would like to extend their itinerary, Salento is also within easy reach for a day exploring its Baroque towns and beautiful beaches.
Summer in Puglia is not just about the sea.
It is about food festivals, village celebrations, music, processions, shows and traditions that allow you to discover the region through its people and its flavours.
Throughout the Itria Valley and the surrounding towns, August offers a rich calendar of events.
In Cisternino, for example, there are events celebrating local produce and traditions, while Fasano, Selva di Fasano, Savelletri and Egnazia host concerts and shows as part of their summer programmes.
Ostuni also offers numerous cultural and musical events throughout August.
This means that during your holiday, you can decide what to do each day: spend the day at the beach, visit a cultural attraction, explore a village or enjoy an evening dedicated to Apulian music and traditions.
After a day at the beach or exploring the villages, a peaceful place awaits where you can slow down and relax.
